Connect a collection concept to the garment

A fashion designer’s portfolio should show a process from visual research to proposed garments. Present a coherent selection of silhouettes, materials and colours, then explain customer, price and manufacturing constraints; technical drawings and collaboration with pattern cutters make your contribution more tangible than an inspiration board alone and help employers understand how you develop an idea.

Understand the calendar and studio responsibilities

For an overseas role, check whether you would cover one line, a product category or an entire collection. Ask how fittings, approvals and supplier relationships are organised, along with the software and working languages; clarify your contribution to portfolio projects and identify confidential material that cannot be shared during recruitment discussions.
