Separate the international role from its employment basis

An expatriate title often describes an overseas move without explaining the proposed employment status. Identify the contracting employer, usual workplace and expected responsibilities; local recruitment, a group assignment and a posting cannot be compared solely through the salary shown in an advertisement.

Clarify the support attached to the assignment

The detail of an expatriation offer also lies in its supporting documents. Ask about housing, travel, support for accompanying relatives and insurance arrangements, alongside end-of-assignment terms; written commitments distinguish a one-off relocation payment from a benefit that continues throughout the overseas assignment.
