Show what you actually produced

A photography portfolio or showreel should make your contribution identifiable: preparation, camera work, lighting, sound, editing or colour grading. To work abroad, select projects close to the recruiter’s needs and explain their constraints; identify equipment you can use and show only images you have the right to present, with any necessary permissions.

Define production arrangements and image use

Before a shoot, clarify locations, travel, deadlines, deliverables and responsibility for permissions. Establish who supplies and insures equipment, how files are stored and the planned uses of the images; employment, an independent commission and contributing to an image agency are different arrangements that need to be assessed separately rather than treated as equivalent offers.
