Locate your contribution within a civil project

Civil engineers may work in design, consulting, construction delivery or specialist assessment. For an international application, describe the structures involved, assumptions examined and deliverables for which you were responsible. Software experience helps, but does not replace a clear explanation of your reasoning or coordination with other engineering disciplines.

Identify local standards and responsibilities

Calculation methods, approval processes and protected professional titles vary between destinations. Investigate the checks required before signing or approving technical documents. Also ask about the balance between office and site work, available supervision and the contractual framework of assignments given to the engineering team, particularly where personal authority is involved.
