The relationship between owner, brand and operating company shapes a general manager’s authority. Clarify objectives, signing powers and available human-resources support. Also examine relocation, housing and end-of-assignment arrangements: an impressive international title does not explain the contractual commitments, reporting lines or resources that will determine how the position operates in practice.
